Current Developments

The Cardiac Centre under Construction is now complete. Most equipment is in place, save for a few that we have to procure as we move along. As such, the center has opened its doors to the first patients. Our partners from the Chain of hope – UK, lead by its founder Sir. Prof Magdi Yacoub, were here on the second week of January 2009. So far, more than 30 patients age ranging from 3 - 45 years had undergone open heart surgery and interventional cardiac catheterization.

The center was officially inaugurated on Thursday February 12, 2009.

Incidentally, the CHFE, ambitious as ever, has placed a corner stone for the establishment of a molecular and cellular level heart research institute, adjacent to the Cardiac Centre - Ethiopia that is now becoming operational.

Currently, the Cardiac Center has employeed more than 45 nurses working in the different sections of the Center such as: the Cath Lab, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), OR (Operation Room), OPD (Out Patient Department) and WARD. Our nurses are getting continous training by trainers from the medical faculty of AAU and outside the country.
